Your child has been allocated 3 Independent reading sessions throughout the week. This gives your child the opportunity to read to an adult one to one. If the adult feels your child is confident with reading their book, and they have read a breadth of books within that book level, they will then get the opportunity to change their independent reading books for a new one. A comment will be written in your child’s Reading Diary to inform you what we did in our session and how well they read. Please could you ensure your child brings their book bags into school with them every day for this to happen.
Not only is it important to encourage your child to read and listen to them read, we strongly recommend that you read to your child regularly. This will encourage a love for reading, and they can hear how reading should sound. In our reading display we have set up a reading race track. The children each have a target of reading 3 times at home per week. This will run from Friday – Friday. Please could you support your child with this. This could include your child reading to a family member such as yourselves, a family friend, or an older sibling. To show that your child has read 3 times a week at home, we would really appreciate your comments in your child’s Reading Diary, so we can also attain an understanding of how your child is reading at home. Without your comment we don’t know your child has read and will therefore not get any points on the reading track!
Thank you for your support with this.
