Our Class Book

Our Class Book 1

Our learning challenge for this term is entitled ‘Who were the Maya?’ This is a history based challenge and the children will be learning about the Maya civilisation. They will also be comparing some of the mountains and rivers in the UK and in modern day Mexico

In Maths year 5 will be learning about fractions, decimals and percentages and year 6 have 4 units to complete: algebra, imperial and metric measures, area and perimeter and ratio and proportion. In English we will be writing a balanced argument, a story and a set of instructions.

Reading – Please continue to read at home regularly and encourage your child to log on to Bug Club.  Reading records are checked every week.

PE – Your child must have a PE kit in school for the entire week because the day on which your child has PE may change. Appropriate PE kit consists of shorts/jogging bottoms, t-shirt and appropriate footwear. At this time of year children also require clothing suitable for outdoor PE. All long hair must be tied back and earrings may not be worn. Children are only exempt from PE if a parent has informed school of the reason.

Homework – Will be handed out on Friday and will be due in on Wednesday. Spellings, times tables and reading will be set every week and are expected to be completed. You will also see that there will be a short message stating what the children have learned about in Maths and English that week. A creative task will be set for the half term to be handed in on a set date.

Swimming – Swimming will continue this half term for year 5. Suitable swimming kit needs to be provided. Boys must wear trunks - not long, baggy shorts and girls must wear a swimming costume and tie their hair back. No jewellery is permitted for swimming lessons.

All classes will be continuing to use the behaviour ladder and also giving out house points.
