Homework and Reading

Reading

Please help support your children with their reading by listening to them read 5 times a week. Books can include their reading book, Bug Club books and any other appropriate books they wish to read. Please remember to sign their reading diary when they have read to you or any other adult.

Spelling/phonics

We will send home spellings to learn that follow a spelling rule that we have looked at in class. We will test the children in a spelling test, usually held on Thursdays. To support this learning the children can also practice thier spelling as one of the enhanced provision activities. Alternatively, your child may be asked to complete some phonics related work to support that weeks learning.

Times Tables

By the end of Year 2, children need to know their 2s, 5s, 10s and 3 times tables. This should include instant recall of all times tables out of order and include division facts for these times tables. Each week we are asking that the children use the Times Tables Rock Stars(TTRS) website or more traditional paper methods of learning these times tables. The TTRS website will allow the children to move through the times tables at their own pace. Each child will have login details, stuck in the back of their homework book, please speak to us if you are having trouble logging on to this great website.

Creative homework

Each half term we will hold a showcase for all creative homework produced that half term based on our learning focus. In autumn 1 we asked the children 'How did the Great Fire change London?'. Our showcase afternoon is Thursday 24th October and we are very much looking forward to seeing what the children have created!
