Day 8, 31.01.20 Kolkata

Today I have been back into school teaching. The class was bigger than Tuesday with about 70 children attending lessons. In the class the ages ranged from about 2 years old up until about 10 years old. As you might expect we did phonics first. With some of the older children, I was teaching them to use their phonics to write words down. For some of the children this was the first time they had done this - they did very well! The naughty toucan puppet helped with the phonics lesson and as you can see he really did help!

After  phonics we taught maths - on Tuesday we counted to 10 in English and Bengali, today we counted to 20. In the video you will see some of the children showing the teacher their Bengali skills.

After maths we had a little bit of time to do some art and all the children got the chance to do some art. We did the same lesson as Durham did last week and all the children made tiger masks. You can see the masks on the main India page.
After lessons were finished we were able to give each child an orange. This made us feel really happy as we know that every child that came to school has had something to eat today. I hope this makes you all feel proud and happy too as I used a little bit of the money you raised to buy the oranges. We were able to buy 70 oranges for just £13.00.
