Day 5, 28.01.20 Kolkata
Today was the first time that I got to meet the children of Brace Bridge! There were about 60 in the class today and 10 children came to school half an hour early!
School started in very much the same way as at St. Laurence with phonics first. We taught phonics using actions and sounds. We then went on to maths. The difference here is that the children need to be able to count in 2 different languages - Bengali and English. I decided that this would be a great opportunity to learn to count in Bengali and I think the children enjoyed teaching me....

After maths it was singing and story time. I read the class Augustus and his smile which is a story we have also read in Durham class.


The real difference is where they are living. It is really difficult to put into words what you see when walking to and when you are at Brace Bridge school so it is probably best just to show you:
