Class Information

EYFS

At St Laurence Primary School we aim to provide enjoyable and challenging activities that ensure every child makes progress in their learning at their own individual pace. Whilst we have a long-term plan, we also use observations of the children’s interests to help inform our planning. We will continually assess how the environment can be adapted to best cater for the ever-changing needs of each child. We aim for children to be well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient and confident in themselves and with others.

At St Laurence, we firmly believe that every child should be given a ‘voice’. To this end, we are passionate in developing early communication and language skills in our Early Years setting. Staff are trained in how to effectively encourage children to speak and every opportunity is taken to develop children’s language skills.

In order to encourage an early love of reading, we have recently adopted the ‘Core Book’ approach in our EYFS. We hope that by the time the children leave EYFS they have an in depth knowledge of eight stories that they are able to retell. The core books are chosen for their use of repetition, story structure and potential to trigger children’s imaginations. Our Core Book list can be found on our EYFS page.

Homework

Reading

It is vital that you read with your child as often as possible. Your child has been provided with a phonics booklet, and they will also bring home at least one book per week. As well as a reading book, we also send home an enrichment book for you to share with your child each week.

Weekly Homework

We will also send home a task for your child to complete in their homework book. This will be sent home on a Friday and must come back into school by Wednesday.
