Pupil voice
The Music curriculum here at St Laurence is brought to life through pupil voice, with children expressing real enjoyment and enthusiasm for their musical learning. Pupils often talk about how much they love singing, playing instruments, and working together to create music, describing lessons as fun, exciting, and expressive. Many children feel proud when learning to play tuned and untuned instruments, experimenting with rhythm and pitch, and performing for others. They also enjoy discovering music by different composers, saying they like learning how music can sound different depending on when and where it was written. Through listening, performing, and composing, pupils feel that music lessons allow them to be creative, confident, and collaborative, helping them to develop a lifelong appreciation of music.
“ I love going to Rock Steady on a Tuesday. I play the drums!” Year 2 child.
“ Music is something to calm a lot of children down and I really enjoy it. When you are sad, you can listen to music to cheer up and calm down.” Year 4 child.
